Focusing on the tradition of knitting under the title “Knitting in the Folk Tradition of the Serbs”, Vjera Medić, ethnologist and museum advisor at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, will present museum work related to the protection, preservation, research, and interpretation of objects within their broader cultural, historical, and artistic context.

This textile technique of handmade garment production is one of the rare traditional techniques that has been in continuous use from the 19th and 20th centuries to the present day. A selection of various objects and forms of exceptional visual qualities will be presented, characteristic of the traditional collective aesthetic framework, as well as the functions of knitted items in the traditional life of the Serbs over the course of two centuries.

Following the lecture, the audience will have the opportunity to take part in a demonstration knitting workshop and, if they wish, enroll in the two-color knitted socks school. The educational program is carefully designed to last three months, taking place every Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The technical skills of sock and mitten construction, as well as the art of ornamental decoration, will be taught by Vesna Stevuljević, associate of Manak’s House.
