The presentation will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 2 PM, at Manak’s House, and will be led by Miroslav Soroćko, a traditional furrier from Berkasovo, near Šid.
The traditional furrier’s craft encompasses the knowledge and skills involved in processing and working with animal hides and leather, as well as making various garments from leather and fur, including sheepskin coats, fur hats, coats, vests, and gloves. In recognition of its importance to the preservation of traditional craftsmanship, this craft was inscribed in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serbia in 2023.
The program is designed to introduce visitors to traditional methods of making handcrafted products, specialized techniques for working with natural materials, and the importance of passing these skills and knowledge on to future generations through direct encounters with craftspeople and live demonstrations of their work.
The presentation is part of the ongoing activities of the Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serbia, initiated on the occasion of the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. These programs aim to raise public awareness of the importance of safeguarding living heritage and to highlight the value of cooperation between cultural heritage institutions and heritage bearers, who play an irreplaceable role in preserving and transmitting traditional knowledge and skills.
We look forward to welcoming you!
