About the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage

The International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage is celebrated on October 17, commemorating the adoption of UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The goal of the celebration is to raise awareness of the importance and challenges of preserving “living heritage” in contemporary society.

Museums play a vital role in this process as community partners—through research, education, and the promotion of cultural diversity. Events like this contribute to the exchange of knowledge and best practices, and to strengthening cooperation among all stakeholders in the field of cultural heritage.
