On the occasion of the International Romani Language Day, a ceremony dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Romani language and culture was held at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade.

The event was opened by the Director of the Ethnographic Museum, Marko Krstić, in the presence of numerous guests from the cultural and public spheres. In his address, he emphasized that the Roma community is always welcome and that the Ethnographic Museum considers itself their home.

During the program, representatives of cultural and educational institutions, as well as members of the Roma community, spoke about the importance of nurturing language as the foundation of identity and as a bridge that connects different communities within society.

Speakers highlighted that language is much more than a means of communication—it preserves memory, tradition, and the spirit of a people. It was emphasized that we all share the responsibility to ensure that the Romani language is not only celebrated once a year but remains a living and vibrant part of contemporary society—in education, literature, media, and everyday speech.

The Romani language represents an important part of Serbia’s cultural heritage and contributes to the diversity of the world’s cultural legacy.

The Ethnographic Museum continues to support programs that promote linguistic and cultural diversity and contribute to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
