International Museum Day – “Vampire at the Ethnographic”
Saturday, May 17 from 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM
On the occasion of International Museum Day, the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade invites you to an extraordinary museum adventure titled “Vampire at the Ethnographic.” The program is inspired by folk beliefs and contemporary cultural interpretations of mystical beings, with content intended for visitors of all generations.
Children’s Program: “Little Vampire at the Ethnographic” (7:00–9:00 PM)
Children will have the opportunity to participate in a comic workshop, where everyone from the youngest to teenagers will be able to learn how to make a comic, draw a book cover, design a character for video games, or simply enjoy the act of creation and guided imagination. In addition, the youngest will embark on an adventure of searching for a hidden object in the museum exhibit, and they will also be able to have their face painted, transforming into characters from their imagination.
Program for Adults: “Vampire at the Ethnographic” (9:00 PM–2:00 AM)
The ballet group Adagio will perform, followed by the start of an interactive treasure hunt titled “Find the Object and Protect Yourself,” intended for older visitors. Everyone who arrives at the Museum during the evening can join this adventure, and participation is open until 2:00 AM.
A special part of the program is the panel discussion “Vampire – made in Serbia™/®,” which begins at 10:00 PM. The panel will discuss the Serbian vampire as a myth, a forensic case, whether it is our word or a global one, as a pop culture icon and as part of the creative industry. The moderator of the event, Pavle Zelić, writer and screenwriter, will also moderate the panel. The panelists will be writer and screenwriter Goran Skrobonja, director of the Festival of Serbian Fantastic Film Jovan Ristić, professor at the Teacher Education Faculty in Užice Aleksandra Bjelić, and professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade Lidija Radulović.
After the panel, visitors can expect a surprise – a special “smoke cocktail,” and at 11:30 PM, the exhibition “Vampire – Our Thing” will open, which presents not only folk beliefs and fears related to vampires but also their transformation and presence in various cultural contexts through time. Special thanks to Ivan Stanić, senior curator of the Museum of Science and Technology, who participated in the organization of the exhibition and the event.
At midnight, as the climax of the evening, the cult film “Leptirica” directed by Đorđe Kadijević will be screened in the Museum’s cinema hall. This legendary Serbian horror film, based on the short story “After Ninety Years” by Milovan Glišić, will perfectly complement the atmosphere of an evening that celebrates the blend of tradition and mysticism.
Ticket price: 300 dinars.
Throughout the entire event, all visitors will receive special gifts, as well as the opportunity to purchase themed souvenirs in our Gift Shop, including special protective items “against vampires,” for all those who wish to take a piece of this magical night with them.
