Hristifor Crnilović (1886–1963) is one of the figures whose work continues to shape our understanding of the traditional culture of the central Balkans. Travelling through the regions of Old Serbia, he documented folk costumes, crafts and architecture, while also capturing people, settings and scenes from everyday life. In this way, he created a unique ethnographic record of a world that was gradually disappearing at the time of his research.
The exhibition “Old Photographs – New Perspectives” presents a selection of previously unexhibited photographs, carefully processed and revitalised using contemporary technologies, allowing historical visual records to be viewed as vivid and compelling testimonies of their time.
In the year marking 125 years of the Ethnographic Museum, dedicated to the culture of dress, this exhibition inaugurates the celebration of this important anniversary.
