The Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade invites visitors to attend the presentation of the exhibition “The Sound of Ceramics”, which will take place on 12 June 2026 at 8:00 PM, as part of the exhibition “Ceramics: Mark”.

The exhibition showcases ceramic musical instruments created during “The Sound of Ceramics” workshops held at the Ethnographic Museum throughout 2025 and 2026. Visitors will have the opportunity to see works by students of the School of Design, Department of Industrial Design, as well as participants in the Museum’s workshops, inspired by one of Europe’s oldest known musical instruments – the Runik Ocarina, dating back more than 8,000 years.

The project “The Sound of Ceramics” takes visitors into the world of ceramic musical instruments, connecting the prehistoric heritage of the Balkans with the rich traditions of South America. During the workshops, primary and secondary school students explored different cultures and musical traditions, discovered the sonic possibilities of ceramics, and created their own clay instruments. As a result, around fifty ocarinas inspired by the Runik Ocarina were produced, along with dozens of other instruments inspired by the musical heritage of South America.

As part of the programme, the quartet “Tiha Voda” will perform traditional compositions from the Balkans and South America. Songs in Serbian and Spanish will be accompanied by the sounds of numerous traditional and handcrafted ceramic instruments, offering visitors a unique musical experience.

We invite you to discover how sound, tradition, and ceramics intertwine in a unique encounter between the past and contemporary creativity.
