Opening on Saturday, 8 August, the exhibition “15 Years of Vekovnici” will introduce visitors to the remarkable history of the authorial project created by writer Marko Stojanović, which over the past fifteen years has brought together more than 250 comic book artists from Serbia, the region, and across Europe.
Inspired by the legend of Kraljević Marko, as well as history, mythology, and fantasy, Vekovnici has grown beyond the boundaries of a traditional comic book series to become a recognized cultural phenomenon. The series has been published in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, and the Czech Republic, and through its international editions and numerous exhibitions has earned a significant place on the European comics scene.
The exhibition “15 Years of Vekovnici” traces the evolution of this unique project—from its first published episodes, through international editions and collaborations with numerous artists, to original comic pages and illustrations that testify to its artistic achievements and international success.
By hosting this exhibition, the Ethnographic Museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore, through two interconnected exhibitions, one of the most significant heroes of the Serbian epic tradition—from folk legend and cultural heritage to his contemporary artistic interpretations in comic books.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors will also be able to purchase Vekovnici comic book editions, including the latest releases and other related publications, at the Ethnographic Museum’s museum shop.
The exhibition will remain open until September 1.
