The Ethnographic Museum invites all interested participants to join the Hand Weaving School on a Vertical Loom – the Klečana Weaving Technique, designed for anyone wishing to learn the traditional craft of weaving the Pirot carpet. The course is also open to international participants, with instruction available in English when needed.

Through dedicated practice and mastering this traditional technique, participants will discover the authenticity of the Pirot carpet—a cultural heritage that remains relevant, inspiring, and fascinating today. Weaving teaches patience, concentration, precision, and self-reliance, while the creative process itself offers a unique sense of satisfaction.

Using the traditional klečana weaving technique, participants will become familiar with the symbolism and motifs of the Pirot carpet, learn how to create double-sided woven textiles, and acquire practical skills for making woolen bands, small rugs, bags, cushions, as well as decorative and fashion accessories.

Pirot carpet weaving, recognized as an element of Serbia’s living heritage within the domain of traditional craftsmanship, was inscribed in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Serbia in 2012.
