“Night at the Ethnographic Museum”: Meet the Mythical Creatures

On the occasion of International Museum Day, the Ethnographic Museum is organizing the third edition of “Night at the Ethnographic”, which will take place on Saturday, May 16, in the year the Museum celebrates its 125th anniversary.

Starting at 7 PM, the Museum will transform into a world of myths, legends, and folk tales, bringing to life Baba Yaga, Psoglav, Ala, the Water Spirit, Vampire, Plague Maiden, Drekavac, Forest Mothers, and other mythical beings from Serbian traditional and popular culture.

Visitors can expect a rich program featuring badge-making workshops, comic drawing, illustration and concept art workshops led by Vladimir Vesović, as well as various activities dedicated to mythical creatures in Serbian culture. The program also includes the “House of Horror Stories”, family activities, face painting, a photo corner, a performance by the dance group Adagio, and film screenings in the Museum cinema hall.

The audience will also have the opportunity to visit the exhibition “Slavic Mythology”, created by students of the Faculty of Applied and Dramatic Arts, a comic exhibition, as well as numerous accompanying activities.

As part of the evening program, visitors will be able to attend the promotion of a book by young writer and ethnologist Mladen Milosavljević, along with the panel discussion “Scary Stories by the Hearth: Kal Juga Between History and Mythology”. The discussion will feature Tamara Lujak, Aleksandar Tešić, Pavle Zelić, and Mladen Milosavljević, who will guide the audience through the fascinating world of folklore, history, and mythology.

Ticket price is 500 RSD, and tickets can be purchased at the Museum or online. The event lasts until 2 AM, while the full program is available on the Museum website.
