The Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade will host the temporary exhibition “Exceptional Textiles of Mexico” from May 23 to June 22, 2026, organized on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Serbia, established on May 24, 1946.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Mexico in Serbia, which initiated and supported the presentation of this important exhibition to Serbian audiences, with the aim of strengthening cultural ties and friendship between the two countries, while showcasing the richness of Mexican culture, tradition, and intangible cultural heritage. A significant contribution to the organization of the exhibition was made by His Excellency Carlos Félix Corona, Ambassador of Mexico to Serbia, whose engagement represents an important encouragement to cultural cooperation between Mexico and Serbia.

The exhibition is realized in cooperation with the ministries of foreign affairs and culture of Mexico and Serbia, as well as the Unit for Living Cultures, Intangible Heritage and Interculturality (UCUVI), and also forms part of the program marking the 125th anniversary of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade.

The exhibition features 34 sets of traditional costumes and two representative textile objects from the collection of the National Museum of Popular Cultures of Mexico. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the textile traditions of sixteen Mexican states and the cultural heritage of numerous Indigenous peoples, including the Rarámuri, Comcaac, Wixárika, Purépecha, Otomi, Nahua, Triqui, Zapotec, Maya, and others.

The exhibition is particularly enriched by unique handmade works, traditional embroidery, and textile techniques that Mexican communities have preserved and passed down through generations, reflecting the strong connection between cultural identity, art, and everyday life.
